Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome with me ISO/IEC 26300:2006, the freshly published OSI standard, better known as OpenDocument Format (ODF).

It's already proving useful

Look at the way that Google Docs includes the option to import .odf files. I fully expect this to become a de-facto standard online.
